In less than a month's time...

Did you expect to see this?
Oh, and this was taken yesterday. So much has changed today. We went after dark so I couldn't take pictures, but our dormers were in place where the open holes in the roof are, all of the OSB board is up around the house, and the outside is completely wrapped to prep for the siding.

We got a call today to set up an appointment to do a walk through with the electrician next week and to go talk to the cabinet man so he can start working on those. Oh, and the windows will be delivered tomorrow!

Boy are we excited. They have taken down all of the "prop" beams in the rooms so we can actually walk through and see the actual sizes of the rooms. They swept up a little inside as well. Starting to feel more like "home".

In other news, this was on my agenda last Saturday. Boy, was I nervous about it! However, it was great to see and hear reactions. I actually attended the party with Jackson so, I got a taste of this one. I know that I may be a little biased, but I have to say that I thought it tasted great and was probably my favorite! It was chocolate and I don't do those often so it was nice to eat something a little different. "Ethan's" Granny told me that her husband (which I think is Papa to "Ethan") doesn't even like chocolate, but he had two slices! Things like that are always great to hear!

Busy, busy, busy

And may I say it again... busy! Not just with life in general but with cakes!! I still don't think I have caught up on my sleep. Last weekend I had 5 cakes to make (that consisted of actually baking 6 cakes because one of the finished products had 2 cakes and the other was made for my family as I had leftover chocolate batter). In addition to those, I had one to make for the Wednesday before and I made one last night. Goodness gracious! Prayers are definitely being answered. Thank you. I will say that it is amazing to see the amount of orders that come through Facebook. My cake album is the only photo album that I have that is "public" and I always "tag" the person I do the cake for to their cake! Their FB friends see the pictures and search me out! Talk about networking!

Anyway, I am sure you are ready to see some pictures! I am ready to post them. Oh, and if you are a FB friend, hope you enjoy a second time around!

My Little Pony -- "Star Star"

Another ladybug cake and another "Alyssa"

My cousin graduated from high school last weekend. Yay!

Umm... this one has a bit of a story behind it. You see, this was the cake that was made with the "extra" chocolate batter. So, I used the extra icing from my cakes that evening (which just happened to be the graduation one) and decorated this cake. Since I was eh hem "re-using" my materials, I decorated the cake with a recycle sign. Genius, right?!? LOL

I have actually made one of these before, but I added the thin blue line to this one (yes, it was my husband's idea ... must give credit where credit is due, right?). My husband's police department had a Family Day last weekend and I was voluntold by my husband that I was to make the cake. It was definitely a big hit and I am glad that I was able to do it. I really like the finished product on this one! (not that I don't like them all!)

This one was for a friend of ours. He turned 32 last weekend and I really wasn't sure what to put on the cake, but he IS a sports fanatic, so I made sure to include his two favorite teams.

And last but not least, this one I did Friday night. It was on a whim. Chandler's mom called me Friday and needed it for Saturday so I had to think quick on my feet. This was also the first time that I used "whipped" icing and it was not what I normally think of whipped icing like on the cakes at Sam's Club. It was more like the consistency of meringue. I don't think I will be able to use this again. Way too soft for cake decorating but luckily it turned out okay for this one.

Cancer and a cake...

Cancer is becoming such a dirty word. It really amazes me how often I hear of people getting it, finding out they have stage 4 of some type of cancer, and/or dying of it. It is definitely affecting a lot of people. However, it seems to hit a lot harder when it hits home.

Cancer hasn't hit my actual family, but it hit a co-worker of mine recently. Becci found out she had breast cancer about two months ago. Since that time, she has undergone many tests, surgery, and now chemotherapy. She has definitely been a fighter and I believe she will continue to be. She is often lifted up in my prayers and I know God will see her through this battle.

She will start back to work today and she doesn't want anything to be out of the ordinary (I don't think I would either), but at the request of her direct team-mates, I have made a "Jennifer cake" for her. I sure hope she enjoys!! Thought I would share a picture with you guys.

Birthday Cake

You may or may not know this, but in some of my spare time, or not so spare, I decorate cakes. I do not have a business of any sorts but most of my requests are through word of mouth. I have done a couple of wedding/anniversary cakes, but I prefer normal birthday or sheet cakes.

All of that being said, I have a couple of loyal customers that seem to always come back for more. Take for instance, Dana, a co-worker of mine. I have made 7 cakes for her now (including the two you are about to see). So, she must like something about my cakes!!

Anyway, her son will be 3 Monday so she asked me... about a month ago... to make his cake. She ordered the invitations, plates, and all the goodies for his airplane themed party and made sure I got one of the plates so that I could use it as a template. I am soo glad that she reminded me yesterday morning about bringing the finished products in today because at that moment, they had slipped my mind! I mean she did ask me to do them a month ago! ;) I posted the finished products on my Facebook page this evening thinking that she wouldn't see them because I forgot that she just learned how to use Facebook on her blackberry that she has had for a really long time now. However, I am so glad that she did because this is the comment I received:

"Best cake so far! It is absolutely perfect!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!! :) oh you have made my day! YaY!!!!!!!!!!!!"

And that, my friends, is why I do this:
